What is the Chartered Economist (Ch.E®) designation?
Ch.E® is a graduate-level professional designation in economics, awarded by the American Academy of Financial Management in the USA. It certifies that the holder can combine economic theory with quantitative analysis to interpret markets, forecast trends and advise on decisions that turn on where the economy is going. The discipline it covers is broad — econometrics, financial economics, industrial organisation, international trade, labour economics, macroeconomics and monetary economics, microeconomics and public finance. Ch.E® is delivered entirely online through the USA-ACER e-learning system, and it is self-paced — you set the schedule around your work. The curriculum spans six modules across Economic Analysis, Applied Economics and Sectoral Economics, supported by more than 2,000 pages of reading, 500+ practice questions, mock tests, case studies and presentation decks.
The examination is conducted independently by Pearson VUE at its test centres, and can be scheduled 30 days after registration. Candidates who want a sector credential can add one of seven specialisation pathways on top of the general charter.
